School Days: 1990-1994
"Ask Mrs Monroe, she knows everything!" said
Jacko Morgan of his teacher, and he wasn't far wrong.
Kate Monroe spent the final years of her teaching career
at Grange Hill and brought with her a vast amount of experience
and wisdom. There was nothing about teaching that could
faze this larger than life, flamboyantly dressed woman
- she always knew how make even the most mundane of subjects
appear entertaining to her pupils. At the same time, there
was a definite line that pupils knew not to cross and
she had a natural authority with her classes. To everyone
she taught, Mrs Monroe was an eccentric aunt and she was
a naturally gifted teacher who could inspire the most
disaffected of pupils.
