School Days: 1978-1979
One of the first Grange Hill teachers to be seen, Tony
Mitchell was a proto-Mr Hopwood or Mr Robson. Mr Mitchell
was a firm-but-fair form master for 1A (later G1) and
was well-respected by the pupils. He was fairly approachable
and had a dry sense of humour but at the same time would
readily bark at anyone causing trouble. While not in any
way a walkover - he was vociferous in his efforts to force
Trisha Yates to comply with school uniform - "Old
Mitch" genuinely liked his young charges and would
go the extra mile to champion the cause of the underdog
(ie. Benny Green). Not even Mr Mitchell was immune to
the infectious charms of Tucker Jenkins... |

MR
MITCHELL'S SCHOOL REPORT |
 |
|
Series 1: Mr Mitchell helps Benny Green when
he needs to find a pair of football boots to play in
the school trials. When the right size cannot be found,
Ann Wilson offers to lend her hockey boots. Mr Mitchell
later has to initiate corporal punishment of Tucker
and Benny following their exploits at the munitions
dump.
Series 2: New headmaster Mr Llewelyn re-organises
the school form system and so Mr Mitchell has a new
tutor group, G1. When Cathy and Trisha ignore orders
not to go home alone (due to a prowler targeting girl
pupils), Mitchell comes to the rescue just in time after
Carol raises the alarm. He also goes with the first
years on their field trip and finds it hard keeping
the boys in line. |
