They didn't call him "Mad Max" for nothing!
Mr Hargreaves took over as Grange Hill's Deputy Head
in 1990, but you could be forgiven for thinking he was
a businessman rather than a teacher. Max was more concerned
with raising the school's profile than doing an honest
day's teaching; to him, talented pupils like Mike Bentley
were useful marketing tools. The other teachers found
Max highly irritating and difficult to work with; Mrs
McClusky couldn't stand him and even the mild-mannered
Mr Robson struggled to cope when Max was installed as
acting head.
|
When he did teach, he was an old-style disciplinarian ready
to pounce on the morning's latecomers. Pupils and colleagues
got great pleasure getting one over on Max but he never seem
to take the hint. Max couldn't believe his luck when Mrs McClusky
announced her departure, but Grange Hill's new head wasn't
going to be him.
REASON FOR LEAVING: Humiliated
at not getting Mrs McClusky's job and left for a new job in
Halifax.
ASSOCIATES: Mrs McClusky,
Mr Robson, Mrs Monroe, Mrs Mason.
CURRENT WHEREABOUTS:
Still getting a little "extra help" in Halifax?
