"When I started the pupils thought they could eat
me alive. And they were right! With his horn-rimmed glasses
and conservative dress, Mr Hankin looked every part the
science boffin. His passion for science lived up to his
image but Mr Hankin suffered a shaky start when the pupils
acted up in his early classes. That was easily solved
by inviting his Aunt Camelia - an opera singer - to help
with one of his experiments. Soon he won the pupils' respect
but would still find himself drawn unwittingly into their
scams, whether it was car washing or mouse racing! |
Behind the swotty facade was a fun-loving teacher, and through
his experiments knew how to capture the pupils' imagination.
He'd be up for karaoke if it was on at the pub and was always
game for a new challenge. Needless to say he got along famously
with his colleagues. In his spare time, Mr Hankin doubled as
a stand-up comedian and wasn't bad either. Little is know about
Jeff's decision to leave Grange Hill in 2002; but it couldn't
have been easy bouncing back from his ordeal at the hands of
Ozzie.
REASON FOR LEAVING: Unclear.
Mr Hankin had already taken leave in his final year; perhaps
the explosion forced him into a decision about his future.
