Mid-50s, archetypal bad-tempered school janitor who had
already worked at Grange Hill for many years before we
picked up the story. Mr Garfield wasn't called "Hitler"
for nothing - he'd be forever confronting pupils for being
where they shouldn't or using the wrong entrance. As far
as he was concerned the teachers were no better - leaving
pupils unsupervised in the school pool or allowing the
pool itself to get into disrepair. Garfield found Mr Llewelyn
hard to work with - the six-day timetable was a headache
for him. "I knew where I was with Mr Starling",
he once famously moaned.
