School Days: 1978-1981
The school bully we all feared. The son of a councillor,
Mickey Doyle was moved into form 1A after persistent troublemaking
but failed to turn over a new leaf. Doyle loved reminding
people about his privilidged background and looked down
on those who were not as fortunate, such as Benny (who
Doyle would also subject to racist abuse) or those who
took school too seriously for his liking. Other crimes
on his charge sheet included theft (antique pistols and
school lightbulbs), and lining his own profits with the
proceeds from his ill-gotten gains.
When Doyle eventually followed in his father's footsteps
and was elected to the school council, he was entirely
self-serving and didn't last long there. Tucker Jenkins
always ready to ensure Doyle wasn't going to have everything
his own way at Grange Hill.

Series
1: Doyle is moved into form 1A and immediately
gets on the wrong side of Benny whom he taunts with racist
name-calling. When Doyle steals two antique pistols from
the art room, the head threatens to cancel the school
fete unless they are found. Tucker roughs Doyle up, forcing
him to return the guns. During the school council elections,
Doyle blackmails pupils into voting for his candidate
but his double dealing is uncovered.
Series 2: There is
embarrassment for Doyle on the way to the school field
trip as his mum comes running after him as the coach leaves!
Doyle causes Penny and Susi to get lost in the woods and
only Justin's speaking up leads to them being found.
Series 3: Doyle is
outraged when Penny writes an inflammatory article about
his lack of activities on the school council. When Penny
refuses to apologise she's banned from writing for the
school magaine. However, Penny has the last laugh when
Doyle is later sacked from the school council and is forced
to retrieve Penny's project from the rubbish.
Series 4: Doyle and
Robo have a nice little earner in stealing new lightbulbs
from the school and selling them to the local junk shop.
It's not just lightbulbs but Alan's judo suit he profits
from too. Andrew Stanton catches Doyle in the act threatens
to grass. |
