School Days: 1998-2004
Ian was a volatile character from the moment he arrived
at Grange Hill. With an intimidating manner, it was easy
to dismiss him as the class bad boy. But he was by no
means a bad person - he never really had any close friends
and was suspicious of any newcomer. Ian lived with his
dad, a security guard - they don't get on and Dad's always
laying down the law. |
Everyone was surprised when Ian returned to Grange Hill after
his army career didn't work out. Although he remained a loose
cannon the sixth form he was learning from past mistakes and
found a mentor in the formidale Mr Malachay. Ian was a reasonably
good footballer and captained the school team.

IAN'S
SCHOOL REPORT |
 |
|
Year
7 Ian taunted Adam and delighted in telling his classmates
about Adam's mum. Ian threatened to suffocate the school
gerbil, causing Adam to crack.
Year 8 Ian played in the school football team and
helped retrieve the stolen trophy and Ben's boots.
Year 9 Old wounds reopened when Adam's father was
released. Ian blamed Adam for Franco's accident but Mr
Hawkins prevented a fight.
Year 11 Deverill caught him with a spray can and
immediately thought Ian was to blame for the school graffiti.
Ian got Dai Hard to speak up for him but this only made
matters worse. Ian took a stand against Deverill and got
a whack from the teacher. When Mr Robson rescinded his
army application, Ian almost threw himself off the school
roof but was talked down. Dolefully, he told Ben and Max
about being hit. At the wedding party, Ian delighted in
confronting Deverill and helped secure the teacher's downfall.
Year 12 Ian's return to Grange Hill was shrouded
in mystery, but eventually he revealed he couldn't hack
the army. Malachay made Ian captain of the girls' football
team. Ian fought tooth and nail to stop the sports fields
being sold off, to no avail. After a series of clashes
with Malachay, Ian led the girls to victory at the end
of term match.
Year 13: Ian is mystified when he can't contact
Shannon and is even more amazed when she dumps him and
gets friendly with Nick. Ian feels distressed that he's
shutting her out, but soon they face up to their feelings
and Shannon chases Ian to the bus station as he leaves
for a summer job. |
