School Days: 2003-2007
Emma is an only child; shy, introverted, and often seen
as being spoilt. The reality is her mum often fails to
notice Emma because of the long hours she works in Human
Resources. Emma sees little of her dad either; he left
years ago and now lives in Aberdeen. Emma tries to buy
friendship, much as her mum buys Emma off for not being
around. The saga with Miss Dyson resulted in much tension
and misunderstanding with Annie and Tanya - Annie particularly
- but then the trio became friends.
Emma was all set to move to Indonesia until her mum broke
up with her boyfriend. It's clear who Mrs Bolton blames
for that - and Emma's problems are plain to see.
REASON FOR LEAVING:
Unable to continue with her education due to her pregnancy.

EMMA'S
SCHOOL REPORT |
 |
|
Year 7 Emma is friends
with Annie and Tanya. She suspects Annie is a thief after
Tanya's make-up bag is found on her; and thinks Baz is
a dealer. She's deeply jealous of Tanya's friendship with
Annie and resorts to devious means of putting her rival
down. When the truth emerges about Annie, Emma finds herself
without friends.
Year 8 Everyone is curious when Miss Dyson receives
a series of mystery gifts. Togger and co. discover Emma
is responsible but Togger agonises about telling Andy,
who is keen on Emma. She is humiliated in class when
the truth comes out. Jeremy encourages Emma to tell
her mum how she really feels, but it backfires when
Mum sends her for counselling. The year ends with Annie,
Emma and Tanya reconciled - they dress as suffragettes
and handcuff themselves to a goalpost in the gym!
Year 9 Emma and Jeremy get the lead roles in the
school film, but Emma walks out when Jeremy is sacked.
She is embarrassed when word gets out she and Jeremy went
to a concert over the summer.
Year 10 Emma returns from a trip to Indonesia
with a new outlook on life. Then she learns her family
will be moving to Indonesia; in desperation, Emma plans
to run away and Tanya is forced to call Emma's dad for
help. The move falls flat when Mrs Bolton splits with
her boyfriend - and Emma is back at Grange Hill.
Year 11 Emma celebrates her 16th birthday, and
is swept of her feet by newcomer Kyle. So amazed is she
that anyone has shown this much interest in her, she completely
falls for him and they end up sleeping together on the
school roof. Emma soon finds herself pregnant, by which
time Kyle has left Grange Hill. Tanya tries desperately
to warn her she's not got long to think about what she
wants to do. Emma goes for an abortion, but on the day
of the prom tells a stunned Tanya she didn't go through
with it and that baby is on the way. |
