THE DOUBLE CROSS COUNTRY
Written by David Hanson

Chloe brings in a crutch and tells Andrea she plans to use it as her passport out of cross country. Unfortunately, Kathy has filmed her running normally and shows the footage to them. McDonnell confiscates the crutch but anticipating Chloe and Andrea might say they've forgotten their kit, he has a garish, smelly kit from lost property waiting for them. Ed, Tigger and Alex are also not relishing the prospect of the run and decide to stick together for the entire course. An undeterred Chloe tells a bemused Andrea they'll be hiding in the old shed, then sneaking round the back to re-join the course just before the end!

Mr McDonnell sends the Year 10s on their way, with Year 7 marshalling. Unaware that Theo and Laxo are filming with a camcorder - but overhearing Ed and co gossiping at their expense - Chloe and Andrea head straight away for the shed which stinks of old paint and other gunk. Once the coast is clear, they are about to leave when they hear engine noises from outside - the shed is being lifted up by a tow truck complete with them inside! Chloe and Andrea wonder what the hell is happening to them and soon realise they are moving!

Ed, Tigger and Alex tell the girls about their "walking" protest and Alison pretends to be impressed. Sammy thinks she should talk the lads out of it and suggests to Alison she should fool the boys into thinking their protest is working. Meanwhile the lads are discussing girls' brains and what makes them tick. Tigger laments how he missed his chance with Alison last year and how he's fed up with Togger and Tanya's never-ending passion.

By now Chloe and Andrea are on the road and starting to tire of the smell. Chloe finds a file and when the driver makes a toilet stop, uses it to cut through the rope holding the shed in place. By the time she's cut herself free, the truck driver returns and they're moving again. The shed overturns, covering the girls in muck but at least it allows them to escape unnoticed. They hide in a dry cleaning van, where a duvet has burst and they are left covered in feathers which have stuck to them! Both girls realise they have to get a bus back to school but have no money, so indulge in a spot of busking. But they are thrown off the bus because of the smell. Faced with the prospect of walking back to school, a woman thinks they are doing a charity run and put some money in their pot. That leads Chloe to scrounge money off other unsuspecting suckers telling them about orphans in the hospice!

Clooney and Gyngell are recording times for the incoming runners, and Clooney tries it on with Sammy and Alison who are first over the finish line. McDonnell is concerned as to the whereabouts of the others. Sammy is forced to come clean about the boys' protest when McDonnell threatens to search for the missing trio. Meanwhile Alex worries about being late for his buddy meeting, to the astonishment of Ed and Tigger who think he's selling out on them.

Eventually, Chloe and Andrea make it back to school and once again Clooney tries it on with Chloe. While she tells him in no uncertain terms to get lost, Clooney is all loved up! The boys eventually make it to the finish line where McDonnell is waiting for them, then Chloe and Andrea are last to complete the course. The girls spin McDonnell a line about the fact they were doing a charity run and he confiscates their collection box for the school fund. McDonnell sends all five to his office and places Ed, Tigger and Alex on litter duty during football.

Theo and Laxo are pleased with their productive morning's filming while Gyngell is astonished by the mesmerising effect Chloe has had on Clooney!
