BOARDERMAN
Written by Neil Jones
XS boasts about his skateboarding prowess and challenges Theo to show
off. Theo jumps from the amphitheatre and almost lands on the passing
Rachel and Lucy. The commotion is seen by Kathy and Mr McDonnell orders
the responsible boys to own up. When they stay silent, Mr McDonnell
imposes a skateboarding ban on the school.
Following her near miss, Lucy starts a "Ban The Ball" campaign
on Hillspace to ban ball games from the playground. However, Rachel
is the only person to sign up. Laxo starts an online campaign to "Set
Skateboarding Free" and wants everyone to sign his petition.
Abel tells him he needs a gimmick and, inspired by Abel's "Thunderman"
comic, they create a masked skateboarding superhero! Soon Theo, dressed
as the character, causes havoc around the school and a video of his
exploits is e-mailed to The Hill. Tigger coins a name for the mystery
red crusader - Boarderman!
McDonnell warns that once caught, Boarderman will be in detention
for the rest of the year. But the whole school is soon talking about
Boarderman. During Year 8's netball lesson, Boarderman appears from
nowhere and makes off with the ball. McDonnell can't believe it when
the red rebel storms the staffroom. Ed and Alex urge anyone who know
who he is to contact The Hill and throw their weight being the skateboarding
campaign. Lucy is annoyed no-one wants to know about "Ban The
Ball" and receives further blows when Tigger cancels her radio
spot, and she is knocked over by a ball while campaigning in the playground!
Abel forewarns Year 7 a locker search has been ordered to flush out
Boarderman. XS refutes Abel's suggestion that he is Boarderman, but
as far as everyone is concerned XS is their man and they challenge
him to do another stunt. In the CLC, Boarderman makes off with Kathy's
smoothie but crashes into the door. Lucy unmasks him - it's XS in
the costume, who protests his innocence when packed off to Mr McDonnell.
Suddenly the school has turned against Boarderman, but Theo and Laxo
realise they can't allow XS to be humiliated for something he didn't
do.
In assembly, XS is put on show for his "crimes" and McDonnell
berates him for endangering the safety of his classmates. Suddenly,
the real Boarderman whizzes onto the stage and there are cheers as
he wraps the furious McDonnell in a "Set Skateboarding Free"
banner. Boarderman reassumes his hero status and as the number of
signatures to the skateboarding petition increases, McDonnell announces
he's prepared to organise a school skateboarding club - if Boarderman
gives himself up!
Jake and Jenny make Lucy see her ball games campaign is for selfish
reasons. Abel realises his brother is the real Boarderman while Theo
realises he can no longer hold out. Boarderman has one last whizz
through the school and is joined by his legions of fans en route to
Mr McDonnell's office. But as Theo unmasks himself, XS arrives in
the costume claiming to be the hero. Chaos soon ensues when each and
every one of the crowd claims to be Boarderman, but Kathy persuades
McDonnell to allow the skateboarding club so long as Boarderman disappears
forever. There are cheers from the crowd and everyone enjoys the new
club.
In a field, Togger is reading a "Boarderman" comic. He's
not impressed. |
