WHO ARE YOU?
by David Hanson

Serena and Megan look on bemused as everyone rolls up on the ampitheatre for a slave auction. Tigger is the first slave and is sold to Laxo and Theo with a bid of £1.50; the pair want Tigger to teach them the fine art of beating the school system. Chloe and Andrea believe no-one will bid for them and they'll have the day to themselves; then a shock late bid comes in from Clooney and Gyngell!

Year 8 are not looking forward to joining the Year 6s on the "Who am I?" exercise, where they must describe their family in 20 words. This is a challenge for Rachel, an only child. Frank Hooper returns to the CLC for a webcam chat with his daughter; he's distraught when told he can only use the facilities until 2pm, not 4pm as he'd booked. The presence of Frank unsettles Rachel who vacates the CLC. The computer system crashes and Frank impresses Miss Greene when he rescues their work, but Frank becomes distressed when told he has to leave the CLC and begs to be allowed to talk to his granddaughter - he stuns Kathy and Miss Greene by identifying her as Rachel!

Chloe is feeling nauseous with Clooney lusting after her, and warns him off when he tries to embrace her. Gyngell makes Andrea don a pair of Star Trek ears. Tigger, meanwhile, takes his "masters" on a tour of the school's most notorious underground spots but soon realises Laxo and Theo are playing him, they already know all the illicit haunts. Gyngell takes Andrea to the library and after a while Andrea seems moderately fascinated by his knowledge of Star Trek, while Chloe still has to contend with Clooney's ever wandering hands. Just as Gyngell teaches Andrea some Vulcan salutes, Clooney gets bold and asks Chloe to the pictures - only to be grabbed for his trouble.

Year 8 are shocked by Frank's revelation - especially as Rachel had always claimed her grandad was dead. Kathy tries to get rid of Frank who pleads for a chance to explain himself - Rachel, it turns out, was the result of an affair Frank had with his wife's sister which left him an outcast in his own family. Furthermore, Rachel has an aunt she doesn't know about living in the States. Frank wants to talk to Rachel but the best the staff can do is offer to vouch for him and he leaves, broken. Miss Greene shows Rachel Frank's website, she watches an emotional video in which Frank reveals he has a mountain of presents and cards he's never sent, for fear Rachel would never reply. Rachel watches intently. Miss Greene lures Frank back to the CLC and Frank comes face to face with Rachel for the first time. She asks about her mystery aunt and Frank tells her to speak to her mum.

Tigger gets clonked on the head by a ball and chain, and fears his reputation is in tatters with two Year 7s having the same knowledge of the school underground as it's taken him until Year 10 to acquire. Laxo and Theo massage his ego, however, which cheers him up. Clooney insists Chloe formally asks to be released from service as his slave and once she obliges asks her out for a pizza. She appears to agree. Gyngell asks Andrea to a Star Trek convention and she seems genuinely interested - then both girls realise they have their reputations to think of and call the boys' bluff, leaving them to think they've got hot dates!

Year 8 give their presentations and Bryn speculates on the dad he's never known. As the class leave, Frank shows Rachel her Auntie Elizabeth who's live on the webcam and her baby cousin Grace. It's an unusual first meeting; Rachel apologises for telling everyone her grandad was dead and asks him for a pic of Grace. Rachel is keen to make up for lost time getting to know Frank.
