In
a Hayes over Georgina
Guy Kendall: "Hi I recall a pupil
from GH by the name of Georgina, I think they called her "Georgie
or George"? She was a dancer, ballet I think and Im pretty sure
she appeared in the video for the song GH cast members recorded?
She was definitely a regular cast member rather than a mere extra
or occasional character Any idea?" Plenty of ideas
thanks Guy! The character you're looking for is Georgina Hayes,
played by Samantha Lewis from 1986-1991. Georgina started out as
the third and most reluctant member of Imelda Davis' gang, The Terrorhawks,
before breaking free and becoming the girl-next-door who eventually
hooked up with Ziggy Greaves, then Mike Bentley. Samantha does appear
in the Just Say No! video where she has a solo dance slot. In recent
years, Samantha has been chaperoning child actors on TV shows but
seems reluctant to get back into the limelight herself - attempts
we've made to contact her over the years have come to nothing. Hope
this answers your question!
We played at Grange Hill prom
Rae Daniel was part of a band which had a cameo in the 1989 series:
"Hi There. Just spotted myself on
a Grange Hill clip on YouTube. I was in the band "Hold The Frame"
that played at the American prom themed end-of-term dance. We also
played over the closing credits ending one of our own songs with
the famous " dah-dah da dah" Grange Hill theme tune ending. I
didn't realise we had the honour of playing it for the very last
time in the series!
"We got were asked to appear on the
show when the producer, Ron Smedley, visited an American school
in Aberdeen , Scotland (our base) to research the American prom
theme for the last episode. The line-up was myself on guitar/keyboards
& BVs (I stand on the left of screen in the clip) Colin Davidson
on bass and lead vocals - he also wrote the songs, Mike Allen on
Guitar and Graeme (Mop) Youngson on drums. We happened to be playing
at the school's senior prom that night, we got talking to Ron, our
management followed up with a couple of calls and lo and behold
we were on our way to London. We had just released our first single
"Against The Wind" so it was a great chance to get national exposure
on prime time TV. We managed to get snippets of three or four songs
featured during the episode, but I remember we had to film our stuff
at about 9am and singing and playing live at that time of the morning
isn't normal for a rock band! It was a fantastic experience and
a great honour to meet some of the iconic cast members of the whole
series. I remember Michelle Gayle mentioning that she might be interested
in getting into music after seeing us, Did we inspire her ??!!
"I remember chatting to George who
said he was more of a Pink Floyd man,, cool.. ! I also remember
seeing Dani Behr on The Word and saying to my mates, "hey, I've
met her you know !" I live in Spain now, still doing a bit of music.
One project is an an ABBA tribute called Abba Elite. www.abbaelite.com
but my main occupation is reflexology www.relaxcostablanca.com
Thanks for your interest in Hold The Frame." Great
to hear from you Rae, and yes, please tell us more about Hold The
Frame! Thanks for spilling the beans on how you came to be involved
with Grange Hill - you really didn't know yours was the final rendition
of the cult theme in the series? Good luck with the Abba tributes
and the reflexology!
Grange Hill uniform wanted
Mark Willoughby seeks a piece of Grange Hill (don't we all!): "I
would like to ask where you can obtain pieces of memorabilia from
Grange Hill? One that I would like is one of those school uniforms."
Hi Mark. GH Online is just a fan site I'm afraid, so we don't sell
items of Grange Hill memorabilia. Your best bet would be Ebay, but
given the demand for Grange Hill items be prepared to pay through
the nose!
Zammo's mum
Meg asks: "Hi , I was wondering if
you could help me by telling me the name of the actress who played
Zammo's Mum Thanking you in anticipation ..." No
problem Meg! The actress who played Mrs Maguire was Jenny Twigge,
who made frequent appearances in Grange Hill between 1982 and 1987.
Two years later Jenny appeared in Grange Hill's rival, Byker Grove,
as the mother of Julie Warner.
