Sammy's dad has caught her sneaking sweets out of the shop and is demanding half the profits. Chloe is furious; especially as they took in the most money to date. Year 9 think Mr Fox had finally flipped when he starts throwing books on the floor and making toast in class. He's merely using these as a way of teaching probability - demonstrating the classic example of toast landing butter-side up; and once again he has captured the class's imagination.

At the radio meeting, the pupils are concerned that Ms Lawrence has been appointed editor-in-chief. Kat is elected editor against Kathy who only got Martin's vote. Kathy is astounded and had to settle for deputy. Maddie blags her way into the lunchtime slot. Furious at being interrupted earlier, Mooey corners Alex and warns him to find him every breaktime "or else". Alison becomes worried. Baz insists he's over Maddie but Kathy senses he isn't. He tries to make Maddie jealous by telling her he is seeing another girl - but it fails miserably. Maddie makes a pop at Kathy over her relationship with Martin - only the entrance of Ms Lawrence and a photographer prevents a catfight breaking out. Kathy retaliates by telling the reporter Maddie's full name!
